48″ x 24″, oil on canvas, 2011

This painting is a reflection on a deep desire to transcend feelings of being imprisoned by the yoke of a historical, familial and cultural legacy of persecution and fear. The bones of the figure in the painting are branded with mystical Hebrew letters and soulful words from a passage from the Song of Songs – “as mighty as death is love … the flame of God”, transforming pain and suffering through the power of love.
