“Qing Ming in Mictlan” is a mixed media painting with portraits of Chinese immigrants in Northern Mexico from the time period featuring a family ancestor, Luis Canton, at his wedding in Chihuahua. Set against the landscape of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts, the painting combines intimate portraits with images from actual graves and icons representing nurturing and healing in both ancient Chinese and Mexican traditions. The painting was exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2010.
