“Santo Niño de Atocha of Pilsen” is the embodiment of the transformational energy of the Holy Child who reshapes himself as a modern urban boy in the Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen in Chicago. In modern dress, except for his hat, He wears badges that honor the history and culture of the Mexican American people; His heart is ignited by the colors of the Mexican flag. Forever the traveler, He carries a backpack with a bottle of water instead of the traditional basket with staff and gourd. He moves through the clouds with the look of passion and determination, embodying a symbol of hope and renewal for the Mexican American community. “Santo Niño de Atocha of Pilsen” was exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2009.
